xx Status report!

Good day to you all, and welcome to the latest update for Cry of Fear. Today is more about slowly pushing along the progress and keeping the faithful still faithful rather than a big flashy "reveal" type post, so you may have to forgive the lack of pizazz here. Anyway, moving on!
" width="500" height="53
As some of you may have seen, 2 new shots were uploaded a short while ago. The first one, seen below, represents the scale of the mod. In other words, you can see that almost the entire city is playable in the game. 90% of the streets are explorable, and considering the city is only the middle-portion of the game, this should give you some idea to the sheer size of the mod.

" width="500" height="281" class="imgborder
"Players can explore the city in its (almost) entirety."

" width="500" height="53
The second shot that was uploaded was a preview of the actual streets themselves. While you've seen street scenes from the mod before, I feel that I should particularly mention this shot as it not only represents a step-up from ruMpel in terms of sheer speed-to-quality ratio (he's only been working on it for 2 days) but also a leap in terms of realism. This is a street you can physically walk down, and recognise, in real life. This not only goes for the street, but the Cybergymnasiet College map is also a direct remake of a real-life location.

" width="500" height="281" class="imgborder
"Swedish fans of the mod may have walked down this very street..."

All this talk of College and real-life neatly segues me into my next topic: ruMpel has graduated College! After receiving exceptional marks for his final 3D assignment (he just so happened to hand in a College map running on a certain mod...) and doing very well in all other areas, he now enters in the big, bad world as a young adult, complete with a rather snappy "congratulations-you've-completed-college" hat. This of course does not affect progress (except possibly in a positive way) but I felt it was a nice enough event in his life to mention. So congratulations!

"The best hat."

In news on all other fronts, progress is going at a predictably steady rate, with Sporkeh as the man-of-the-moment. He's been busting out some great animations and models lately, and even shockingly volunteering to do extra work. On top of that, Milo has finished the TMP (lol) texture and it's looking great. I haven't got much else to say, so on that note I'll sign off. I hope your appetites have remained wheted (is that a word?)

xx Generalised Update
April 13, 2010, 07:14:45 AM by James
Welcome to another thrilling Cry of Fear update. Not much on the table this week, although we do welcome 2 new members, as well as go over a few things and general progress.
" width="500" height="53
First off, we'd like to welcome the latest addition to our team: Tim "Milo" (AKA Oh No Melon) Curry. Tim is handling the weapons side of 3D modelling and texturing, giving assistance to long-time member Spork. He's already well underway with a certain task, which is looking greater by the minute. Welcome aboard, Milo!
" width="500" height="53
As I mentioned before in the previous news post, my PC was, and still is, completely out of action. It will randomly switch itself off with no prior warning, and booting from my primary HDD causes it to be slower than any PC I've ever had before, in my entire life. This means that my mod work has to be done via my ancient, ancient laptop, which can only run Cry of Fear at about 2 fps. The laptop really is that slow. So that means that while I can continue programming, I can't really test what I make. Someone else has to do it for me. I'm sure you can imagine how annoying that can be.
" width="500" height="53
This, however, does obviously not affect other progress. Mapping is going ahead at fantastic speed, as recently showcased by this picture. I can't stress enough how much this does not detriment any other areas of the mod, so stop panicking.

A phrase you may have seen bandied-about recently is "donator-specific features". What is this, you may ask? Simply put, those who have donated to the mod 10 dollars or more will be rewarded with an extended version of the mod upon release. Those who don't donate, still obviously get the full mod with no reduction in anything except EXTENDED features. Features such as one of the SMG weapons, shown here (work in progress)

" width="450" height="338
The Steyr TMP (lol) is a low-power SMG with a high rate of fire, it can quickly turn the tables  in your favour in a tight situation. Ammo is extremely rare, so use it  wisely.

That's all for now. Stay tuned for future updates, as the TMP is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to donator rewards. Oh, and we should say, only donations equal to or over $10 will grant you the special bonuses. Some people were intending to donate 1 penny to the mod just so they can get these features. Not only is this a waste of their time and money, it's a waste of ours too.

Until next time,

xx Videocast 3 released!
March 11, 2010, 05:56:06 PM by James
Well, just recently we promised we'd be doing more videocasts, so we've gone and done just that. This is the 3rd installment in the thrilling Cry of Fear videocast series, starting with a bang and ending with a whimper. We also promised that they'd be in HD.

If you guessed "the videocast", then you'd be right! We've been having a number of technical difficulties lately, the main one being my PC being totally fucked. Don't worry though, the code was backed up and nothing has been lost. This shouldn't really impede progress as I can still continue to code from this laptop. Anyway, without further ado, here's the 3rd videocast!

That's right. This was LONG overdue, and we finally got off our lazy butts and hired a fellow Brit, Xilefian, to do the site for us. He completed it at breakneck speed, and we're extremely grateful to him. Three cheers for Felix! Please do sign up to the site and these forums, and stay active! News here will be posted a day before ModDB, so you'll get all the exclusives before anyone else. Which reminds me

We have set up an area for donations! This helps us keep the site running. (Bandwidth and disk space is provided by my website, Half-Life Creations www.half-lifecreations.com so feel free to check that out too! Donations over $10 also get you super top-secret features, not only in the forums but in the mod too, to show our appreciation. If you do donate, please send me a private message on the forums with the email you used to donate and the install path to your Steam copy of Half-Life. We need this to ensure that you get the donator-specific features in the mod! Unlike a multiplayer mod such as Sven-Coop, we can't check your Steam ID due to a boring technical reason to do with how Steam handles LAN players. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Catch you all on the flipside
