Cry of Fear Technical Help and Support / Re: freeze / not responding
« on: 12 April, 2018, 04:58:52 AM »
The correct board for this type of question would be the Technical Help and Support, but I will try to help you out anyway.

Let's do some basic troubleshooting:
  • Are you using the Steam version of Cry of Fear? If not, please do so - it's free on Steam. The mod version of the game is broken and does not function.
  • Have you uninstalled/reinstall Cry of Fear? If not, please do so and try again. If nothing changes...
  • Are any background programs running? (ex. Discord, Skype, Game Booster, etc...) Please go ahead and turn them off in the meantime and re-run Cry of Fear.
  • Assuming this system you have is a laptop, are the graphic drivers up to date on the laptop? I'm not too familiar with the Intel HD Graphic Chipsets if they bring drivers, but if they do you should try to update it or download the drivers if you do not have them on your laptop.
  • Lastly, did you try to run the installation setups of DotNet from the "_CommonRedist" folder from the Cry of Fear folder? If not, then go ahead and navigate to the Cry of Fear folder (Go to Steam > Library > Right-click Cry of Fear > Properties > Go to the Local Files tab > Click on "Browse Local Files" > Find "_CommonRedist" folder, and run both .exes from "4.0" and "4.0 Client Profile" folders".)

Hopefully one of these will help with your problem.

Did you set cl_downwiththesickness to 1 for the easter egg? If you did, make sure to set it back to 0 before playing the game again.

(Late bump :I )
That command has nothing to do with the issue he's experiencing.

This is a bug that exists in CoF that may be either HL engine related, or something else that could be fixed. However, the devs are done fixing CoF.

In order to bypass the unusual bug, you want to launch from the CoF folder using "Run as Administrator" option. To do so:
  • Right click "CoFLaunchApp" from your Steam folder (Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/Cry of Fear/).
  • Click on "Run as Administrator".

You may want to mess around with compatibility modes too via "Properties" when you right click if this doesn't do the trick.

The mod version of the game is not supported anymore.

Use the Steam version of Cry of Fear - it's free to download on Steam.

This is an old HL engine bug that's existed for a while.

If you have any music player on in the background and begin loading a map, it will play a short snippet of the song selected before complete map load.

Ignore that user, I know who he is. He does have those commands by editing the game files to force enable them.

Glad you can fix the problem.

However, that's odd that there's a problem with CoF with your Razer headset. I have a headset with 7.1 and it doesn't drop frames.

It might be driver conflict with CoF.  Try to see if you have updated audio drivers for your motherboard, otherwise maybe mess with your Razer by changing some settings (change it to 5.1?) to see if it will not drop frames in-game.

I'm getting the white screen instead of the black. I think I posted in another thread about it, have the same issue as some other guy.

Please provide a screenshot and list your system specifications.

Cry of Fear Mod Discussion / Re: Cry Of Fear Singleplayer Maps

Go to your map folder in Cry of Fear (Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/Cry of Fear/cryoffear/maps) and you'll see all the map files.

Every map that starts with "c_<mapname>.bsp" are the singleplayer maps (Not the ones with "c_cof_", mind you). To go to those maps through console, go into Cry of Fear - open the console and type (without angle brackets):
Code: [Select]
map c_<mapname>

map c_forest1

Let me try to help.

(Note: This is the wrong board to post in. Make sure to next time look carefully for the right board (here's the correct board:

Please list your system specifications. Is there any error window popping up? Are you using the Steam version of Cry of Fear?

Have you tried to verify your game cache integrity for Cry of Fear?
  • (If you don't know how, go to Steam > Library > Right-click Cry of Fears > Properties > Local Files > Click on "Verify Integrity of Game Cache". This will fix and replace any bad/corrupted files.)

Nah a CoF themed killer wouldn't be necessary. I really can't think of a fun and functional one.

Book Simon with his Sledgehammer :barry:

Excellent run! That was really impressive!

Congrats on the rank S

I set up a discord real quick.

It's bare-bones, and I'm open to suggestions to what can be added and how it can be improved.

I probably hop on it time to time, but otherwise thanks for making one. :barry:

Cry of Fear Technical Help and Support / Re: Mouse Drags When In Game
« on: 19 July, 2017, 12:18:57 PM »
This issue doesn't seem to be related to Cry of Fear, it's problems either directly with laser interference, program conflict, or mouse settings through Windows.

Now you did say Fullscreen "fixes" the issue, but in Windowed mode is when the issue occurs. Ensure all unnecessary background programs (ex. Hamachi, Skype, GameBooster, etc...) are turned off while you're running Cry of Fear.

If you're on a laptop, going under Mouse settings through Control Panel on Windows and disabling the touchpad could work. You can also make sure that "Hide Pointer while Typing" is enabled - this is a good option to have ticked at all times.

As a side note, if you're experiencing audio issues while Fullscreen, make sure you have updated audio drivers (whether that'd be updating the motherboard drivers or software drivers via Windows) or adjust your audio settings through Windows (ex. making sure proper audio are on and unnecessary audios are disabled.)

Hello Cry of Fear developers! I have enjoyed your game for quite some time and it is quite amazing. It's just whenever I attempt to play the game, it does something where the mouse tends to drift away and keep going in a direction I am moving the mouse. Sometimes on rare occasions it does not happen, but most of the time it does it. I have attempting using a program like RInput, but it just makes the menus messed up, and not the game itself. It will make the mouse way offset from where it originally is, which is not good, so I have to move the mouse off of the actual thing I want to select just to select it, which is hard because the offset position is very hard to determine. If you could possibly help me solve this issue, that would be fantastic. I am running Windows 10 64bit Home Edition.

What kind of mouse do you use? Have you made sure your mousepad and laser are free from dirt and dust?

Also, please make sure you do not have any joystick controllers connected (ex. Xbox, PlayStation, etc...).

Could you please provide the screenshots?
