Cry of Fear Suggestions / Porting Cry of Fear over to PS4

I thought it'd be interesting to see how CoF plays with a controller. Since PS4 has an x86 processor like computers do, it would also be hella easy to do. Xbox One isn't much of an option when all it does is DirectX, in case anyone asks.

SCP-173 is a 16 year old that CONSTANTLY derails topics, acts like he's the most hilarous thing ever by throwing Joe Biden all over the place, and has proven that he is not smart enough to be serious, think about things for himself like "how do i decompile a model in hlmv" "how do i change hl.exe's propeties the window is in iunno what fucking language the words are in but its confusing", and he's HITTING ON people and creeping them out by asking their age and justifies it with:

. And from the pictures he's provided and descriptions of how to "relieve stress by killing people", I have concluded he is a sociopath with no friends.

That's only a part of him I've exposed, and that's why I leave this decision up to YOU. Ban SCP or let him stay?

    Hello! This tutorial is designed for those that want to make their map fresh and unique through the use of .pak files!

.PAK Files? What are those?
.pak files are collections of files that can overwrite stock content. Basically the GoldSrc way of using a .vpk in TF2's custom folder

Why should I set up a .pak file?
With .pak files you can...
  • Change the metal ladder sound effect to a wooden one!
  • Change how the health/stamina bars look!
  • Change the background of the rusty inventory!
  • Change monster sound effects without the use of a monster_custom!
  • Use different bump maps for the stock textures! Useful for making ruMpel jealous of your bumpmaps!
  • Change the player voice! (Simon when hurt/getting hurt/panicking from suicidal influence/dying/etc.
  • Much more!

What do I get to set up a .PAK file?
.pak files can be created through the use of Wally or PakScape.
For the sake of simplicity, continuity, and because I hate Wally, we will be using PakScape. Woo!

I've downloaded and installed PakScape. How do I use this bloody thing?!
Like with all programs, select the "New" button in the "File" dropdown list.
Then, in the "Object" dropdown list (or by right clicking the white space in the "Untitled1" window.) select "New Directory" and name it something. Let's use a map for an example. You're gonna need to name the folder "maps".
Now, if you're thinking that you're gonna have to use the exact same names CoF uses for the folders, YOU GUESSED RIGHT!
You need to treat this .pak file as a mod folder or else it won't work. To add items to a folder just go in the folder and press "Import File" from the "Object" list.

Wait, how do I use the .pak file with my map?!
Here is the part that is hard to explain. How about we take a look at the .pak files used by the HL1 mod "They Hunger" (1999-2001).

This is the .pak file used by Episode 3 of They Hunger. As you can see, some maps are stored here.
If your map file is in the same .pak file as the models/sounds/sprites/etc. then the map will use THESE assets instead of the default ones!

I understand now! Okay so lemme load up my map and...where is my map?
You need to name your .pak file "pak#" where # is a number starting up from "0". After that, you need to use numbers that come after "0".
You cannot pick a random number such as "436". Diagram of how the naming system works.

Do I need to put in all the files from the CoF directory?
Nope. The map will read the original files from the CoF directory if need be.

Where do I put the .pak?
In the cryoffear folder. Don't put it into any specific folders in the cryoffear folder.

What if my buddy and I both ship a custom campaign named as pak0?
I don't know. Right now I hope people can put two and two together and rename them themselves.

Why don't I just use a mod folder?
It takes up less memory and it's easier to bundle with CoF than a mod folder is.

What can't I do?
  • You cannot edit code, leave that shit alone.
  • You cannot pack .wad files into a .pak, just ship it alongside your .pak.
How long could I have done this?
This method was available ever since Quake 1.

Anything else?
I don't know, this is my first ever tutorial!

So I was playing on Volcomator's suicide server (which has forever changed my opinion on the sledgehammer) and about 3 retries in I noticed that the timer was taking off 20 seconds instead of adding 20 seconds on each kill.

Not sure if it's the server's fault but if it's a game problem I hope this will be fixed on patch 1.6

My first reaction was when I saw the model names speeding along in the installer and when I heard introreal.mp3. I thought to myself "What have I gotten into."

Cry of Fear Suggestions / A quicksave that deletes itself!

So basically, you press the quicksave button, the game takes you back to the main menu so you can quit and fix the bugs caused by playing for a long time (2h+) and when you load the quicksave file then it deletes itself. I thought this up because my game slowed down to 4 fps and it became clear to me that the game would crash soon. Lo and bhold, I go into the door I came from and the game coundln't load the map file and crashed. Basically, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon's quicksave function in Cry of Fear.
