It's only for CoF singleplayer.

Firstly, backup your saves.

1) launch tool, launch game (version 1.35)
2) load "pure" old save (from 1.0 to 1.2), then immediately pause game.
3) alt-tab, choose lang, click FIX IT.  (lang must be chosen first)
4) alt-tab, resume game, wait one second (or jump twice, don't do anything else), then save your game (better another slot). SAVE ONLY ONCE.
5) exit to 3D menu, close game, close tool
6) OK. Now you can launch CoF. You can use newly created save.

It should restore your stats in 99.9% (because it will add few minutes to your "time taken")
Difficulty, firearms, and other stats should be restored, notes should have subtitles again.

I tested my tool on my one save file (which is near the end of game), I beat boss, I got items unlocked, stats were correct.

I tested it on other 1.1v save files - it fixed difficulty, notes language, firearm stats, don't know about unlocks. So, no warranty.

"pure" - supported save files only from 1.0 to 1.2 version. Saves from version 1.3 - 1.35 are not supported.
Do not use this tool for other purposes - it can break your game play.
It can break your save even more if you do not follow above steps.

(sorry, my English skills aren't perfect.)

1) launch cofReadStats.exe, launch and play the game
2) if you want to know current stats, pause game, alt-tab

"Damage taken" could be handy for custom campaign developers.

Grade forecasting for CoF SP in next version.

Green border, good accuracy, over 90%

Yellow border, accuracy over 90%, if you miss 1-15 times your accuracy will downgrade just below 90%

Red border, accuracy below 90%.

Cry of Fear Technical Help and Support / Desura, installing CoF
« on: 08 May, 2012, 04:56:00 AM »
I tried today both desura and moddb. Here, results.

I have both folders, CryOfFearDesura and CryOfFearModDB (I removed all Thumbs.db files), then
Code: [Select]
diff --ignore-file-name-case -uri CryOfFearDesura CryOfFearModDB > differences.txt
ZERO differences. And now Desura launches CoFLaunchApp.exe.

Just one thing to mention: do not choose "Install and remove unrelated files", because it will delete all files from half-life folder. (of course you can reinstall HL1, but what if it will remove other mods and save files)

1) install half-life 1 (not source engine version)
2) run half-life at least once.
3) install desura, download and install cry of fear (mod)
4) choose only those options:

5a) play game through desura (it should launch "Cry of Fear Launcher")
5b) create a desktop shortcut for Cry of Fear Launcher (CoFLaunchApp.exe program)
ex. E:\games\STEAM\steamapps\[steamaccountname]\half-life\CryOfFear\CoFLaunchApp.exe

6) choose "check for updates", if any, download & install.

Submitted Content / [Vampire Mod] for [Cry of Fear]

revision 1

WinXP View

Activating the mod:
1) launch game
2) load save or start coop
3) alt tab, launch "Vampire Mod" exe, activate it by pressing ALT+F1
4) play game

What is it?
It works like many trainers. But it doesn't make you invincible nor enable an infinite amount of ammunition/health/syringe/stamina. You simply replenish your health by killing enemies.

"How many health I regain?". It depends on current difficulty level, used skills.cfg file and Vampire Effectiveness value.

Similar to:
"Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver" - killed enemies leave behind souls that replenish Raziel's health.
Or vampire mutator in UT series.

You can change few settings, click "S" button:

- Vampire Health Treshold, this value should be in range from 0.1 to 40.0
Default value: 30%. (If you have more than 30% of health, vampire abilities are disabled)

- Vampire Effectiveness, this value should be in range from 0.1 to 80.0
Default value: 42%. (killing monster with 100HP will increase your health by 2.1HP )

Hit "Apply" button. Re-enable "Vampire Mod" (hit ALT+F1 twice).
You can save settings, hit "Remember settings". If you want default values, delete CoFVampireMod.ini.

Fractional part is allowed, with "." as separator.

Other info:
This modification should work for co-op too. ( only the person who's hosting should use it ).
You can mix it with other modifications, such as "Realism" Difficulty

Known problems:
- killing last boss (ending 3,4). But you can disable mod at any time,
- you get health even when monsters are killing themselves,

yes, I'm a fan of "Legacy of Kain" series.

Old post:
I almost finished creating the modification for Cry Of Fear.

It works like many trainers. But it doesn't make you invincible nor enable an infinite amount of ammunition/health/syringe/stamina. You simply replenish your health by killing enemies. Your vampire powers works only when you have less than 40% health.

Currently I'm trying to figure out best settings for:
- Vampire Health Treshold, if your health is below this value, your abilities wakes up.
- Vampire Effectiveness

I played few maps (single player, on nightmare difficulty) with VHT=40% and VE=2%. That is - if I kill monster with 150HP, my health increase by 3HP. And it's still difficult  8)

Submitted Content / Reload script - "bind, alias" script
« on: 16 March, 2012, 06:57:50 AM »
Many games promote "reload your guns as often as possible". If you play CoF, then (let's say) AlanW, then CoF, then again AlanW. It is difficult to switch from one system to another.

This scripts prevents accidentally pressed R key - it's not counted as "+reload".

  • Starting state: you have a gun, 15/15 ammo inside current mag., 5 mags left inside Simon's pocket.

You play for a while and you shoot a "facebook monster", then, accidentally, you pressed R key.
Simon will ignore your "reload demand".

Ending state: 10/15 ammo inside current mag., 5 mags left inside Simon's pocket.
Alternate (without my script) ending state: 15/15, 4 mags left

  • Starting state: 10/15, 5 mags left

You are shooting a "taller monster", 10 bullets isn't enough, now you have 0/15. You pressed R key, if nothing happens, press it again, Simon reloads his weapon. Two more bullets and "taller" dies, again, at the end, you pressed R key.

Ending state: 13/15, 4 mags left
Alternate ending state: 15/15, 3 mags left

  • Starting state: 13/15, 4 mags left

You killed one monster with four bullets, and pressed R key.
You killed another monster with three bullets, and pressed R key.
Freaky monster appeared behind you, next three bullets goes away, then again you pressed R key.

Ending state: 3/15, 4 mags left
Alternate ending state: 15/15, 1 mags left

Place file inside CoF folder.

PS: please NO trolling, NO pointless arguing.
PSS: I know this script has downsides and isn't for everyone.

How to backup game progress?

I think, all *.sav and *.cof files from save folder + scriptsettings.dat file inside CryOfFear folder. Maybe custom.hpk file. Is that right?
