I have an idea for a custom campaign that seems to fit very well into the framework of Cry of Fear.
There are a series of Youtube videos called "Marble Hornets". I'm pretty sure that most people on this forum have seen them or at least heard of them. The primary antagonist in the videos is an entity called "The Operator" aka "Slender" or "The Slender Man". The video series is quite long and covers the exploits of several characters: Tim, Alex, Jessica, and the primary narrator. I can't remember his name right now.
Several items and weapons are featured in the videos: a pipe, a flashlight, a wrench, cellphones, a handgun, a couple of different video cameras, etc. The setting has multiple locations: the woods at Rosswood Park, a burned-out hospital, a variety of scenes in hotel rooms and creepy houses, etc.
The videos are numbered as "Entry #1", "Entry #2", and are shot in a "found footage" style with intermixed text explanations. It's creepy as all hell and very tense. The footage is not always in chronological order. Whenever anything supernatural is about to happen the sound gets very odd and there are video errors and artifacts. Some of the film is actually found as you go along.
The reason I think that an adaptation/re-interpretation of Marble Hornets would work very well in the Cry of Fear engine is that many of the elements are already present. Cry of Fear has the ability to do some of the odd video and sound effects. The inventory system and notes system would work perfectly for the story. The cell phone could be used much more extensively and Co-op mode would translate perfectly to some of the video sequences. The Marble Hornets story would probably have to be expanded a bit to add more enemies, but it could still remain an exploration/puzzle solving story.
To do this properly, it might be a good idea to contact the Marble Hornets team and make it an officially sponsored mod. It would also require a full mod team to do it right. Help from the CoF team would go a long way to making this real.
What does everyone think? I think it has a huge potential. Oh! I almost forgot. There are also David Leatherhoffesque Pills in the videos too.
