No melee damage for shotgun / rifles

When you are using a melee attack button for a shotgun, or for a rifle of any type, the kick butt does no damage. In fact, there is no even impact on a target, just a free swing. This bug presents in any version of CoF, and it's really annoying, when you out of ammo and can't even kick an attacking monster. And you can't break any breakable obstacle on your way by this kick too, so you have to switch to another weapon everytime.

 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the shotgun and rifles aren't meant to do damage. I think the idea of their meter swing is that it knocks them back every time, giving you a chance to change weapon or run past them.

By the way, the kick butt on a monster also eats your stamina in the game. And it also makes no sense, that kick butt can't break obstacles. That really can't serve for any purpose.

It's not realistic, but it's a development choice that the rifles don't deal melee damage, except pushing the monsters back. The game doesn't obey the real life's logic.

Nevertheless, any developers' decision should have a reason. What's the reason of inability to break obstacles?

If I remember well, youc an't break stuff simply because you don't deal any melee damage. It's a simple consequence; and you don't deal damage beacause the devs thought that the fire power was strong enough, so a harmless melee attack would balance that.

No. I checked this issue more carefully and found that I was a bit wrong. Kick butt DOES a little damage on monsters. And we can see impact and blood, when we beat them. But for the obstacles kick butt really do nothing, nor impact, nor damage.

Maybe it's because you merely shove it, not hit with it, like in L4D, you merely swing the rifle to shove who ever's in front of you, which is why obstacle won't break and the sort, simple as that.
