As shown on Facebook and our main website, we have set the release date of the Stand Alone release for April 24th, which is in a week.
Cry of Fear will be re-released for free on Steam, where you won't need Half-Life to play it. It will be completely stand alone.

As you may have noticed, we have now switched over to IndieDB, or rather, the games section.
What this means, is that Cry of Fear is no longer a mod, but a game. This means that other people can create mods for Cry of Fear as in Custom Campaigns. Some examples of that are:

No, its more because its hardly a valid point. Bandwidth, storage space and servers capable of handling an extremely high volume of requests isn't free. Its not cheap either. Valve isn't "fucking us" by being interested in trying to get some money off of a game that is going to be using all of the above. An ideal pricing point would be one that would allow Team Psykskallar to turn a fairly sizable profit while also being able to offset the costs of distribution that Valve is going to incur.
A "free to play" game is a game that has alternative forms of income generation. A "free" game is a game that is 100% free.

I don't think the CoF devs are going back on their word... I just think Valve is being a bunch of assholes. If I have to pay 5 or 10 bucks for the game, so be it, fine by me. But the delay is fucking pointless when the devs explicitly state on their page they intended for the game to be a free alternative means of acquiring the mod and honestly, it seems like Valve is either covering their asses for not paying close attention to the intentions of the Devs OR they're trying to put the devs balls in a vicegrip and squeeze some easy cash out of them.
I know we could suggest it's so Valve could pay for the download costs... But again, TF2 was mentioned and the mad dosh they make off of that, I'm sure sparing some cash for an indie project like CoF can't be draining MILLIONS out of their pockets. Either they apologize to the CoF devs for not communicating to them properly and deal with the backlash of angry fans OR they can pull a Gearbox/EA and just keep silent and pretend nothing has happened. I say we keep bitching and moaning as much as possible, the more noise we make the sooner Valve (or whoever was handling the greenlighting of CoF) has to answer to their bullshit.

PS: I also kinda remembered that the only reason the Greenlight version had to be pushed forward so hard was because Valve fucked them over with the Half Life update in the first place and their failure to communicate with the CoF devs and try and help them. So yeah, Valve kind of already has the situation not looking in their favor. They kill the coding that many mods relied on to maintain stability and pretty much did nothing to help anyone out. Kinda seems like a dick move.

I said most, I didn't say all. And yes, I have CoF on my Facebook. Point is that the sect is not the issue and you crucify them like they are the sole cause without realizing you're also trash talking the devs. I can't tell you how many times I've typed "cry of fear" into the steam store in the hopes that the devs caved and offered it for a few bucks. Word for word, you're trash talking the devs and defending Valve. I really don't think you realize this.

I'm merely stating that because the original plan was to make the game free doesn't mean that you are definitely getting it for free or that Valve is going to be okay with that. I've said more than once that I'd pay again for the game. I'd easily pay $20 for a copy of the game. I've been following Andreas and James (more-so Andreas in the early days) since Afraid of Monsters came out and when they announced this boy after AoM:DC, I was one of the first people to add it to my tracking list on ModDB. I'm a massive fan of everything that's been put out by this amazing dev team and I guess I've almost been taking people's entitled bullshit personally.

You two seem being incapable of realizing that the standalone version requires to be installed through Steam for it to work. It'd take them more work to make it non-steam and even then I doubt Valve would allow them to do so.
