How do I do it?
Whenever I try to host my own server (In game menu) my friends can never join in. (I invite them to the game through steam menu)
We aren't doing a LAN. They live far away and always get "Server Not responding" Error
I do have a fast connection, and all my HL-2 games works fine.
Help Please

Easiest solution:
Go to Tools under your Steam library and download Dedicated Server
Open it up so it can generate it's folder structure
Copy your CryOfFear folder to dedicated server from half-life
Open up the liblist.gam file inside the CryOfFear folder (in Notepad, the one in the dedicated server folder, not the one in the half-life folder) and change the type entry from singleplayer_only to multiplayer_only
Verify your ports are forwarded correctly
Open up Dedicated Server and change the game to Cry Of Fear (change the max players to 4 and make sure Internet is selected.)
Try again.

My friend started coop. I can connect to his game without problems (connect XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX command).
But there is one annoying thing:
- screen trembling after jump-crouch, you must stay at crouch state, to see effect. (I just hit space key only once, and then immediately I press ctrl key)
- and screen trembling while sprinting or jumping
It is somehow related to crosshair width. The bigger, the worse trembling occur. How to fix this?
I'll record video and upload it tomorrow, so you can see what I meant.
PS: When I start my own coop, that trembling effect does not appear. The same goes for single player / campaign, no screen trebling/shivering.

OK, here video with that strange "trembling" effect:

How to fix this?
@Clay
After copying CryOfFear folder to dedicated server from half-life we can delete all BSP files (inside maps folder) whose names does not contain "c_cof_" (of course, don't delete cof_campaign_01.bsp)

If you started a coop game and no one can join you simply send them this:
steam://connect/your_ip
They will recieve it as an URL so they'll just have to click on it.
To know your IP: http://www.whatismyip.com/

Hello guys, I am new here, didn't even put an avatar yet
Need some help, I am trying to play with my friend, I did the tutorial Clay make it, but with no success
I am with Dedicated Server opend here, server running, but I can see only in the LAN tab and my friend see nothing
Of course I make the server for INTERNET e not for LAN
I've never needed to port forward here because of my configuration in the router, so I guess that is not the problem
Help! and thx :)

Hard Solution, but doesn't require the players joining to do: You can port forwarded Cry of Fear(Look up on how to do)
Easy Solution, but players joining must do(Atleast when setting up Hamachi and joining the IP): You can try using Hamachi. I can't remember how I got it to work, :stig: so you need to look it up.
Note: GameT, you should probably use Hamachi.

Thx Seal, I guess Hamachi will be easier here then
Ill go give it a shot today

i still dont know what hamachi is can you please tell me :( Im new to coop cof

Hamachi is a service used by individuals who are not in a reliable hosting environment and require assistance.
If someone wanted to host a game but either cannot be bothered to set up a proper environment with my router, firewall, or other variables that may be interfering, all he would need to do is simply load up Hamachi and join a Hamachi network. He would request that his contacts that would like to play with him do the same. Obviously this requires friends wanting to play with you to do, as since you are on a Hamachi network, anyone who is not on the network would not see your server if your server is not normally visible to the public.

Hamachi is not only used for Cry of Fear. It's used for various server hosting stuff. It's for people who don't port forward. It's on a website called like "logmein".

Hamachi is your friend! All you need to do is get your friends to join your group on it, host a game, in the lobby type in the console: "sv_lan 0", and now your friends should be able to join via the console command on the main menu: "connect <your ip adress>"
