Campaign Competition Results

The 9 months old Campaign Competition has finally reached it's end! The results are here, and we have a winner! The reason it was delayed was due to some conflicts and the work with Cry of fear stand alone.

Watch the video below to find out the scores and the winner of the competition.

64 Bit Patch

Earlier this week, we released a patch that was made by the community. This patch is meant to make Cry of Fear more stable, and fix a couple of memory crashes.

You can download it here, but keep in mind that you need to be a 64 bit user and have at least 4 GB of RAM: http://www.moddb.com/games/cry-of-fear/downloads/cry-of-fear-crash-patch-for-64-bit-users

Download Cry of Fear on Steam

As said on previous news. Cry of Fear was released on Steam not too long ago. If you haven't read the news about it yet, you can read it here. It contains the changelists and release notes as well: http://www.moddb.com/games/cry-of-fear/news/cry-of-fear-now-released-on-steam

While were at it, let's make our own opinions on the CCs...

- SPOILER ALERT -

Community Collab :

That jumpscare at the first map totally caught me off guard, otherwise the rest was pretty fine, the level design was partly terrible, but it's only made on a couple day, so i won't protest, the sawer at the end killed me many times before i finally made in to the end.

Memories :

I just love this campaign, the intro (Which is quite controversial on the trailer youtube video) was quite creepy to watch, the maps were awesome, although i didn't jump a lot, the soundtracks were great (Especially the second map, love the guitar music), IAmBulletProof's map made my heart beat a little faster when that sawer bastard just blast through the walls and sewers, not to mention Metal Gear Solid VR Missions remake and that Clown map which is like totally awesome! I had fun playing (And making the last map for that matter.) the CC, i did sorta remade A Tricky Carnie's map, but the map didn't got into the CC (My name was still in the credits though.), the version that i remade was in here :
http://www.cry-of-fear.com/forum/index.php?topic=3284.0

Halloween Collaboration :

I swear maybe it's just me, but i didn't jump on this CC more than once, the dead guy who you approach then suddenly the other blue guy pops out, that thing totally jumped me out! Theevina's map creeped me out, JonSplitz map not so scary, while E3Pointman's map again frustrated me at the part where you get shot by the police, and one of the pickups is still in Simon's hands, so you might want to fix that, Nalopex's map had a lot of details although i didn't see the axe coming.

I'll put more reviews when my hands don't hurt anymore, how about you guys? Got any review for any CCs?

- SPOILER ALERT -

Out of It and Scrolls Of Shaimoon were the most fun IMO because they had an original story, great puzzles and an unique atmosphere.

The Hole was great too, because it was the "What if?" scenario which made it so interesting IMO.
The level design was amazing, and the cave design didn't really bothered me.

The only frustrating part was the blocky maze in the big cave, can't really believe i made it out.

ISolation had an interesting story, but the all other stuff was a little bit poor designed. (probably because Aresaka rushed with the campaign since it was nearly the end of the competition, which i completely understand.)

Her also had an interesting story, which actually made me think about it for a long time.
Level design was great, and the ideas like "Following the red light in the dark to net get lost" were pretty cool.
The only thing which i didn't liked was the lenght, because it was so short.  :(

Hotel Terror... good designed maps, but way too short.Seriously, it made me feel that the Creator of it only cared about the design,
and zero about the gameplay.

But it had an epic conclusion...  lol  :yow:

Community Collab 1, im pretty sure it would turn out better with if it wasn't me the fag who broke his leg at the early development time and delayed it for 2 months, i still feel a big shame in myself about it.
And the overused Sawrunner was lol, even though i placed him as an end boss in my map.
Many people raged over my map, because it had no save points, no syringes, and was hard as fuck. (Which was supposed to be so,
same as the original Doctor campaign.)So yeah, i mostly blame myself for the campaign being terrible. Still, it was fun developing it... :miniyow:

tl;dr

E3Pointman's map again frustrated me at the part where you get shot by the police, and one of the pickups is still in Simon's hands, so you might want to fix that.
Thanks for pointing this out mate, i will see what i can do to fix that.

Nice results round-up, nice to see some honesty and not sugar-coating to make the mappers feel better.

Just watched the results video.
Thanks for finally finishing this up Andreas!

It's also great to see good constructive feedback given, as this should help all the mappers improve for their future projects. Also congrats to EC for first place! I played Recidivist a few times over and it is a totally deserved win in my opinion

Everyone else did a fantastic job as well :)

Recidivist was one of my favourites along with The Hole. Took me some time to finish them both. I agree though that Recidivist is a strange name, what does it means? Nevermind, congrats to everyone!

PS: I made a friend of mine play the Community Collab... Only lasted 12 seconds before the first jumpscare :yow:

Wasn't there supposed to be a reward?

Yeah. PewDiePie was responsible for the rewards. We cannot provide that since we are all poor and broke.
I guess now the reward is free advertisement for your campaign.

I suggested a donation campaign to provide funds for the winner, but it didn't got accepted...

You should've stopped when you lost the advantage.
