No Gun Sounds, Music, or Dev Commentary Sound
« on: 29 December, 2017, 04:05:17 PM »
As the title says, there are no gun sounds or music playing during campaign mode. In addition, the developer commentary audios don't play; when I 'use' dev commentary bubbles, the name of the dev comes up and initiates a scene but no audio plays.

I've read solutions such as "launch from the CoF folder" but the issue remains. People seem to think it's the Steam overlay; I tried disabling the Steam overlay but then when I try to start the game I get an error message and it won't start. I have also redownloaded the game.

Does anyone else have any ideas about how to fix this issue? I'm assuming it's a compatibility thing with laptops and I figure that I am not the only person with this issue. Thanks for any help that you can offer. :)

Regards, comrade pete

Did you set cl_downwiththesickness to 1 for the easter egg? If you did, make sure to set it back to 0 before playing the game again.

(Late bump :I )
That command has nothing to do with the issue he's experiencing.

This is a bug that exists in CoF that may be either HL engine related, or something else that could be fixed. However, the devs are done fixing CoF.

In order to bypass the unusual bug, you want to launch from the CoF folder using "Run as Administrator" option. To do so:
  • Right click "CoFLaunchApp" from your Steam folder (Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/Cry of Fear/).
  • Click on "Run as Administrator".

You may want to mess around with compatibility modes too via "Properties" when you right click if this doesn't do the trick.
