How do I exit the first computer? (and other questions)
« on: 17 September, 2012, 12:23:28 PM »
This sounds like a silly question, but I'm seriously at a loss here.  I'm at the first computer where you get the padlock code, and I can't exit.  I checked a video and it showed that there should be a monitor display, but for me it's just a gray screen with the text there.

Also, how do you save?  I'd really like to enjoy this game, but I'm getting really sick of having to replay the first 15 minutes over and over due to things like this, crashes, and random drops to 1fps.  It'd be much easier if I could just save right before the problem areas.

You can find a save point after you unlock the door's padlock.

As for the monitor problem, you probably had some problem with the installation.
Unless you're using a pirate version which are always buggy.

Also, mind if know the specifications of your computer? Graphics card and all that.

If your wondering how to use the tape recorders, you double click any of the five rectangles inside the tape recorder box.

Not a pirated version.  Followed the download link from the site and have HL1 installed on Steam.

My specs are as follows:
Windows 7
12 GB RAM
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz
2GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M

I can't get to any tape recorders because my game keeps bugging out.

Sounds like a VGUI resolution problem, not aligning the buttons to the images. Out of interest, does the 3D menu work fine? Same for the inventory. What resolution are you running too? Are you in windowed mode?

I'm running it in 1600 x 900 (same as my display).  Never had any issues with the 3d Menu or inventory.  I'll try again with a different resolution in a bit.  If it works, great, if not, I'll try to get a screenshot of what's happening.

Maybe some files got corrupt during the installation? Maybe you could try reinstalling, also, what version of the game are you playing on?

That's really weird that the GUI screen buttons align properly on the 3D menu and inventory but not the computer! A picture of what you see would be great.

Yes, I know I'm kind of contributing to bumping this thread but seriously, ninjakitty, did you even bother to check the date on the last post?
You bumped a 1 year old thread.

Did you try clicking the X on the screen?

You bumped a 1 year old thread.

At least he didn't make a new topic on the same subject.
