TRIED EVERYTHING, CAN'T FIX FLASHLIGHT ?
« on: 29 December, 2013, 08:45:43 PM »
Hello, I know you've all seen this before, and it's nothing new, but I've literally tried everything to fix this. I replaced the openGL32 file by download, I deleted it and let Steam reinstall it, and I've done the gl_dynlight 1 thing and nothing has worked. This is my console after starting the game..

couldn't exec language.cfg

I don't own HL1 or HL2 or Paranioa if that has anything to do with it, and I've honestly run out of options. I'm about to give up this game  :-[. I tried to get through the game without it, but now I'm forced to use it in a pitch black room. If anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated. Either message me on steam (steam id: dylanilkowitz) or email me ([email protected]) or just reply to this post. Thank you in advance  :D

What problem is it? You don't even say what the problem specifically is. Can you provide us with a screenshot?

My flashlight is broken on the mobile. Also the mobiles screen isn't lit. The camera flash won't work either and I have the weird three hand dual wield thing. I cannot provide screenshot at the moment but I will later

Also, you can edit your post to add things instead of double posting.

It sounds like you use a graphics card that doesn't support OpenGL even though it says it loads.

- Are you using windows or mac?
- Are you sure your card supports OpenGL?

Pretty positive I'm using a card tha supports OpenGL. I'm running it on a laptop so I understand that's probably the reason, but I've had my friend optimize my laptop to run games well (Cry of Fear, although not graphically challenging, runs near perfect except for the occasional lag spike) but when I get home I'll post my specs. Oh and it's windows.

I found a thread where somebody is having trouble with opengl using your series of graphics card:

http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/topic/281262

Both for series 2 and 3 the opengl driver is in many cases incomplete and/or non-existant. Seeing as it says it loads opengl in your log, but it doesn't load the lights, it might seem like you have an incomplete opengl renderer. By rule of thumb, laptops and desktops are horrible to play games on if they carry some kind of Integrated graphics driver with the processor. To date I have never heard a good work spoken about one because they aren't very powerful, the drivers get outdated as soon as the developers or the provider can't be assed to make a new driver for it (which takes about a year or two) and they are more often than not incompatible with other things.

Download the opengl extension viewer so that you can see what version of opengl you have installed and if it conflicts with anything on your computer.

Updating your drivers to the newest version might fix it, but it didn't seem like the guys who asked in the thread got much in the way of help  :-\

Other topics with the same issue:

This topic lists the Intel HD cards that support and don't support opengl. If your card is in the wrong list, you're out of luck  :-\

This guy had problems with opengl on a laptop, reinstalled windows 7 and it worked. Might be a fix? Could be something happened when your friend optimized your laptop.

This guy had problems using opengl using a dell computer with dells custom drivers. Turns out they don't work that well with opengl. Opengl's official forums should have a fix if you dig deep enough.

This topic is in general negative towards getting it to run because of the HD chipset

Unfortunately, I do have the driver that doesn't have a complete version of openGL 3 :-\ so I guess that means I won't be able to use dynamic lighting period huh ? I've recently bought Garry's Mod and the flashlight works fine, so I'm pretty confused as to how that is, considering they both run on the same engine (is that right ? lol) anyways, thank you for your help even if I can't really do anything about it. Cheers !

No clue honestly, I just bought Garry's Mod before I took the screenshots so maybe the application I use to boost my game/take screenshots/take videos just associated Garry's Mod with Cry of Fear ? That's my guess at least lol

Cry of Fear is buildt around the old Half Life 1 engine. Garrys mod on the Half Life 2 engine. I'm having a hard time finding a good reason why the two would mix screenshots like that. You are running the standalone steam download of Cry of Fear right? Not the mod version?

If you can't find a fix with the information I provided, then I don't think you'll get it to work with your current setup. Half Life 2 relies on different tech agewise than Half Life, which is why it works and the other doesn't.

Yeah I downloaded Cry of Fear directly off steam. And yeah I wasn't really finding a fix. Thanks for your help though !
