"Jackhammer is a brand new level editor for games with a quake-style BSP architecture. The aim is to develop a convenient cross-platform tool capable of incorporating the best features of existing editors, such as Valve Hammer Editor, Q3Radiant and others. Despite Quake and Half-Life having been released a long time ago, the large community have arisen around, still developing mods and games on their bases. However the existing editors suffer from fundamental disadvantages their users are well familiar with. Jackhammer does aspire to be the universal level design tool for classic games. But not only the classics! The editor shall become a key development tool for the Volatile3D II engine, that is why its second name is Volatile Development Kit."

Supports .RMF formats, .WADs, and a bunch of other things out of the box. It's like Hammer, but modern. It's EXTREMELY like the new Hammer for Source, and I like it.

The attachments below are two pictures of c_city2.rmf opened in Jackhammer, then a side-by-side comparison of outofit12.rmf (from wnuk2380) open in both Hammer and Jackhammer.

Wow looks pretty neat.
I've never tried the Source version of Hammer though.
Is it easy to get into? Because I don't want to risk messing up my .rmf files :S
I'm pretty adept at what I do.
My only drawback is my lack of focus.

Yes. The biggest changes are UI but the core is the same. Lots of minor improvements, like when you copy+paste a brush it pastes it in the same place, so you can easily edit it without having to position it in 2 screens. However if you left it you would get zfighting. On the surface editor there are button to instantly rotate a texture 45, 60, or 90 degrees. Also you can select textures by .WAD (even though they are still all included!)

Take a try, it has full support of .rmf files so there is no risk of messing them up if it works as functioned. Never had a problem with it either. Oh, and if you are a batch compiler (me me meeeeeeee) it also exports to .MAP (but doesn't open)

I'm still using jackhammer for 5 weeks and this editor is A Bit better.
You have more things you can Do with this editor .
Mapping is a lot easier and compact.
Jackhammer is for me a better alternative to Hammer :)
