Walk Function?
« on: 24 February, 2012, 10:14:13 AM »
I was curious why a walk function was not included in the final version. One of the best parts of AoM was being able to slowly make my way through the apartment buildings and tight corners, constantly on edge for things to jump out at me. Instead, in CoF I find myself flying through corridors and smacking straight into enemies without even realizing it. It's become an occurrence that's detracted from the suspense I expected of making your way through interiors. It feels like you simply move too fast. I'd turn the movement speed down but I'm sure that the game has been built around the set speed and changing it may change how certain scenarios go down. So I was just curious, was there a specific reason why Walk wasn't included or would you guys be open to adding it into a patch in the future?

Thanks, and great job with the game!

Go slower yourself, and you'll be OK.  I never had this issue, and having a walk button wouldn't be bad, but it wouldn't be necessary.  Overall, I agree that there should be a option, but it isn't fully needed.

I wonder what key should be used, since SHIFT and ALT are already used.

"Ctrl" (if you're not using it for crouching), "X", or you just can reconfigure the controls.
Doesn't binding a key to "+walk" work?

I apologize in advance for digging this months old thread from the deep depths of the Earth, however instead of posting another thread entirely on the same topic I thought this would be more acceptable. I hope this is not an issue.

Walking is an important part of pacing in a game, ZFDcorpz has covered this quite nicely in his post. It helps with the ambience. Constantly jogging from place to place for walkers such as us can be quite alienating, and I can say this in full confidence as I have just finished my run through this wonder of a mod.

As for concerns with binds, in games that provide both a sprint and walk function I have C bound to sprint and SHIFT bound to walk. It is quite easy for this to work if one seeks it, so I humbly ask the Cry of Fear team to plug in that walk feature. I know it might potentially take some hours integrating it with the changes to running and such that has been made, but it is a change that can assist in immersion. If key configuration is a concern, it can be left unbound so that we can make those required arrangements.

1st post here. I wanted to make a new thread, but to hell with it.

I'm sure it could be easy to fiddle with cl_forwardspeed somehow... Please add it to the game. It would add a lot of immersion.

In the console type bind <key> +walk . If I'm not mistaken that was the right command. It should be available since it's coded in HL. But who needs this walk? You are slow enough already.

Coming soon...

] bind "CTRL" +walk
Unknown command: -walk
Unknown command: +walk

Directly from the console. So I'm guessing it was taken out...

NO.  :stig:

The normal "walk" speed is a little too fast. Died a few times during the nightmare platform sequence because tapping a direction makes you dodge into the abyss.

It was one of the reasons I hated the platforming in HL1. Character movement feels slippy and sliddy.

You could just disable double-tapping dodge option in the advanced section of the options menu.

Just picked up the mod.  Looks great.  Was immediately very disappointed that walking is disabled.   :(  If anybody has a fix, please post here.
