Half-Life 1 WON Version?
« on: 01 March, 2012, 02:20:27 AM »
Many players owned the original Half-Life, but not the recent HL Source since most people are actually waiting for the HL remake called Black Mesa which is for HL2. There is no point of saying this mod will not work on a older HL version. Many players have succeeded in getting HL mods that were for Steam actually works in the original HL. I will not buy HL Source for Steam (just to play for this mod) when Black Mesa for HL2 will be free. Also the patches need to be seen and downloaded on the official website and Moddb so people won't get confused. I am just wondering whether if there will be a WON version of Half-Life?

Half-Life Source is a Source engine port of the original Half-Life 1, and all Half-Life 1 mods are incompatible with it due to this.

You'd have to get the Steam version of Half-Life 1, not Half-Life Source to play this mod and so forth. Not to mention, all WON servers are down by now so you can't play those online probably.

Then how can I get the original Half-Life 1 into Steam?

I noticed this HL Steam download: http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/HalfLife_Steam_Installer;18859
Will that turn the original HL to be compatible with Steam so that future HL1 add-ons will work with it?

Yes, all Steam mods work with HL1 Steam, or at least should, bugs happen with the WON version.

If you have your CD key, register it on Steam, bam. It's much easier that way. You got a fast download every time, automatic updates, ability to play with everyone else...

There is every point in saying the mod wont work with WON, because it wont! If you play with WON you get so far and then you'll encounter a fatal error that cannot be bypassed unless you get Steam. This mod is extremely demanding of the engine, much more so than any other mod released before and thus WON simply can't cope because it was never designed to handle the detail present whereas Steam can.

Then how can I get the original Half-Life 1 into Steam?
