News / Play Resident Evil: Cold Blood!
« on: 20 March, 2014, 09:14:27 AM »
Do you want more of us? Why not play our other mod called Resident Evil: Cold Blood. It's another mod developed by us, Team Psykskallar, and was released back in 2007. The mod is co-op, and is set in the Resident Evil universe.

Be aware though, since the mod is using features that Windows Vista/7/8 is not supporting, the mod can get a little buggy. But there is ways around it! Follow this guide on how to get it to work:

What you need installed:

  • Steam
  • Half-Life 1

1. Download RE:CB here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/resident-evil-cold-blood/downloads/resident-evil-cold-blood-beta-2

2. Install it.

3. Restart Steam.

4. Launch RE:CB from the Steam Games Library.

5. Set your settings in Options. It is important you do this, as you need to configure your settings before you do step 6.

6. Go to your Half-Life folder, located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Half-Life. From there, right-click hl.exe, and go to Properties. In the tab Comtatibility, check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", and choose "Windows 98 / Windows Me".

7. Now you can play the mod properly. However, if you try to change the options settings, the game will crash. In order to set the options, you need to uncheck the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box in the hl.exe properties.

8. In order to play with your friends in a server, someone needs to host one. There are different ways of doing this. Either you have to port forward your router (which there are several tutorials on), or you need to use a program called Hamachi. There are many tutorials on how to do this. The steps are the same as Counter-Strike, Sven Co-op or any other Half-Life mod.

Enjoy!

News / Campaign Competition Results!
« on: 08 June, 2013, 08:50:56 AM »

Campaign Competition Results

The 9 months old Campaign Competition has finally reached it's end! The results are here, and we have a winner! The reason it was delayed was due to some conflicts and the work with Cry of fear stand alone.

Watch the video below to find out the scores and the winner of the competition.

64 Bit Patch

Earlier this week, we released a patch that was made by the community. This patch is meant to make Cry of Fear more stable, and fix a couple of memory crashes.

You can download it here, but keep in mind that you need to be a 64 bit user and have at least 4 GB of RAM: http://www.moddb.com/games/cry-of-fear/downloads/cry-of-fear-crash-patch-for-64-bit-users

Download Cry of Fear on Steam

As said on previous news. Cry of Fear was released on Steam not too long ago. If you haven't read the news about it yet, you can read it here. It contains the changelists and release notes as well: http://www.moddb.com/games/cry-of-fear/news/cry-of-fear-now-released-on-steam

You can download it straight from steam by searching on Cry of Fear on the store page, or by clicking this link: http://store.steampowered.com/app/223710/

News / Co-op Server browser
« on: 19 May, 2013, 12:17:41 AM »
So it seems like the server browser problem we have in Cry of Fear is caused by the fact that we don't have any master server. There are tons of servers for CoF, but they are not displayed in the server browser. Here you can find a list of the servers: http://www.game-monitor.com/GameSearch/cryoffear/Cry_of_Fear.html

We have tried to resolve this problem with no success. So I'm going to try and reach out to you, the community, to help out with setting this up! So please leave a comment in this thread, and let's try and figure this out together!

So far, you need a master server: http://hlmaster.sourceforge.net/

And we also found out that you need these files from Half-Life/valve folder:

steamcomm.lst
valvecomm.lst
steam.inf

Comment guys!

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU REPORT A BUG

What should you do first of all?
  - Search the forum for threads that may have already issued a solution to the problem you are experiencing. Often a bug has already been fixed! Scroll down at the end of this page to see the known issues.
  - If the bug or problem occurs only once, it might not be that important to report. However does it occur several times or in certain locations, please give us a good description as mentioned below.

What should your report include?
  - Proper grammar, you most likely have a functional keyboard, don't write things like "y u no fx tis" when using this forum
  - System specifications
  - What does it say and where does the problem occur (error window, crash to desktop etc)
  - What you have tried to fix the issue yourself

When will you get help?
  - As soon as we can! Please understand that we are a small team, and like most of you have a life outside the internet as well!

Remember that more details will increase the chance for us being able to help you!

Co-op doesn't work / No servers available
Solution: Co-op does work. It's just that it doesn't show any servers in the server browser. Read this thread: http://www.cry-of-fear.com/forum/index.php?topic=3624.0
You can also find servers for Cry of Fear on this website: http://www.game-monitor.com/GameSearch/cryoffear/Cry_of_Fear.html

Reliable channel overflow
Solution: You can fix this yourself by configuring some settings. Head to this thread to learn more: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5057-FVCM-1111

Steam Validation Reject
Solution: 1.) Try and restart CoF. 2.) Try and restart Steam. 3.) Tell the host to restart the server.

Solution: Read this thread http://www.cry-of-fear.com/forum/index.php?topic=885.0
Status: We cannot fix this since this is caused by your bad settings

Game is stuttering/tearing with sound, very low FPS

Status: We cannot fix this since this is caused by your bad settings

Game textures look very lowly detailed
Solution: Turn your driver enforced texture filtering quality to medium/quality mode and off of low/performance mode.
Status: We cannot fix this since this is caused by your bad settings

Solution: Restart the game
Status: This bug is being looked at

Solution: Make sure your video drivers are up to date
Status: We cannot fix this since this is caused by your bad settings

Status: We cannot fix this since this is caused by your bad settings

"Crashes when I die in the subway tunnels"
Solution: Make sure to not die when holding a lit flare
Status: We're working on fixing this

« on: 07 May, 2013, 05:37:09 AM »
As the title says, I'm eager to see how you all look like, as it feels like we are all friends. Instead of meeting up in real life, why not post a picture of yourself. :yow:

All of you probably already know how I look like, but I'll start anyway. :joebiden:

News / Cry of Fear Release Date
« on: 18 April, 2013, 01:16:23 AM »
Release Date
As shown on Facebook and our main website, we have set the release date of the Stand Alone release for April 24th, which is in a week.
Cry of Fear will be re-released for free on Steam, where you won't need Half-Life to play it. It will be completely stand alone.

IndieDB
As you may have noticed, we have now switched over to IndieDB, or rather, the games section.
What this means, is that Cry of Fear is no longer a mod, but a game. This means that other people can create mods for Cry of Fear as in Custom Campaigns. Some examples of that are:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/lost-echo
http://www.moddb.com/mods/smile
http://www.moddb.com/mods/hallucinations
http://www.moddb.com/mods/simons-book-the-chronicles

See you the 24th of April
But until then, follow us on our website http://www.cry-of-fear.com/
Or at Facebook http://www.facebook.com/CryOfFearOfficial
Or IndieDB: http://www.indiedb.com/games/cry-of-fear

Cry of Fear Customisation / Create ModDB pages for your campaigns!
« on: 16 April, 2013, 07:12:07 PM »
As Cry of Fear have now switched over to the games section in IndieDB, you are now able to create mods for Cry of Fear on ModDB. IamBulletProof did this first with his campaign Lost Echo. I'd love if you could create ModDB pages for your own custom campaigns as well. Wether they are released or not. It's a good way to keep track of your stuff, rather than a forum thread. We should still keep your forum threads though. :)

Here's his mod page: http://www.moddb.com/mods/lost-echo
